چکیده

Spectral intensities of quadrupolar nuclei and the radiofrequency (rf) pulse lengths for selective and non-selective excitation of any single-quantum NMR transition in the solid state are calculated. When nuclei of the same element occupy sites which experience different electric field gradients, the spectra are quantitatively reliable only when the length of the rf pulse is much smaller than n/Z~,,Jl(lf 1 ) m( m + I ). By using hydrated samples and short rf pulses, quantitative determination of aluminium by “Al NMR in thermally treated (ultlastahle) reoliteY has been achieved. Quadrupole nutation NMR reveals novel information about the various aluminium species present.

Selective suppression and excitation of solid-state NMR resonances based on quadrupole coupling constants.

The dependence of the (Rotor Assisted Population Transfer) RAPT enhancement on offset frequency for nuclei experiencing different quadrupolar couplings has been exploited to design two new spectral editing schemes, pi/2-RAPT and RAPT-pi-RAPT, for the selective excitation or suppression, respectively, of nuclei with large quadrupolar couplings. Both approaches are demonstrated on the 87 Rb spect...

Spectral editing in solid-state MAS NMR of quadrupolar nuclei using selective satellite inversion.

A sensitivity enhancement method based on selective adiabatic inversion of a satellite transition has been employed in a (pi/2)CT-(pi)ST1-(pi/2)CT spectral editing sequence to both enhance and resolve multisite NMR spectra of quadrupolar nuclei. In addition to a total enhancement of 2.5 times for spin 3/2 nuclei, enhancements up to 2.0 times is reported for the edited sites in a mixture of rubi...

High-resolution multiple quantum MAS NMR spectroscopy of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei

We demonstrate the utility of a two-pulse sequence in obtaining high-resolution solid state NMR spectra of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei with magic-angle-spinning (MAS). The experiment, which utilizes multiple/single-quantum correlation, was first described in a different form by Frydman and Harwood [J. Am. Chem. Soc. 117 (1995) 5367] and yields high-resolution isotropic NMR spectra where shi...

Recent developments in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance of quadrupolar nuclei and applications to biological systems.

Recent advances in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methodology and improvements in high-field NMR instrumentation have generated a new wave of research interests in the application of solid-state NMR to the study of quadrupolar nuclei. These developments now permit increasingly complex biological systems to be probed by quadrupolar NMR. In this review I describe a few recent developments in NM...

Rapid acquisition of wideline MAS solid-state NMR spectra with fast MAS, proton detection, and dipolar HMQC pulse sequences.

The solid-state NMR spectra of many NMR active elements are often extremely broad due to the presence of chemical shift anisotropy (CSA) and/or the quadrupolar interaction (for nuclei with spin I > 1/2). These NMR interactions often give rise to wideline solid-state NMR spectra which can span hundreds of kHz or several MHz. Here we demonstrate that by using fast MAS, proton detection and dipola...
